Just a quick question, are you guys programming the engine from scratch or are you using an engine you downloaded and are just adding on to it?

Considering the 4 of them managed to get as far as they claimed to be in the given period of time, they probably downloaded an engine and extracted the files onto the server, but there are other ways, too.

we downloaded a server and a client. (sprites, tiles, ect.) everything else we make on our own (scripts, maps, ect)
